Biotech Consortium India Limited (BCIL) is a public limited company, promoted by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India and set up by All India Financial Institutions including IDBI, ICICI, IFCI, UTI and IFCI Venture Capital Funds Limited.
BCIL was incorporated under the Companies Act 1956(Now Company Act, 2013) in 1990 with government in advisory role, development banks as major funding agency.
It is a nodal agency for providing business support services to facilitate accelerated commercialization of biotech products and processes.
The company was inaugurated in 1990 by the then Prime Minister of India, Hon’ble Shri Chandra Shekhar, in presence of the Finance Minister, Shri. Yashwant Sinha and Dr. Manju Sharma, Secretary, Department of Biotechnology.
