Introduction:-
Prof. T.S.Murthy Station of Science & Technology was setup during the year 1995-96 at obaidullaganj, District Raisen and is spread over 13 acres of land area. Station is having a plant tissue culture laboratory alongwith a medicinal garden as well as biodiversity conservation park. More than 200 species of aromatic and medicinal plants are conserved in the medicinal park. In the campus two big ponds are developed for ground water recharging alongwith green house & moist chamber & one good Distillation unit was setup for oil extraction from aromatic & medicinal plants. Organic farming practice was adapted since last 5 year in the campus. Use of any chemical fertilizers and pesticides is totally banned& successfully doing vermicompost production from organic garbage of campus and achieved self dependency toward fertilizer requirements of station. After getting another 10 acres of land from government, now campus spread over 23 acres of land, with the setup of well equipped rural technology centre along with spacious training hostel.
Objective
- To develop Research & Technological development model of aromatic medicinal plants for their integrated development and give foremost position to our state towards this direction.
- To develop protocols of commercially important plants through plant tissue culture technique.
- Conservation, Propagation & popularization of aromatic & medicinal plants.
- To develop integrated research & development technology of organic farming and to encourage it in the state through demonstration of their models.
- To establish Botanical biodiversity conservation park and to setup its model.
- Development of low cost rural technologies and to organize various training programmes for students, farmers, and women’s especially rural youths for their employment generation.
Facilities for R & D
Well established tissue culture laboratory includes Glassware washing,Glassware preparation,Media preparation, Inoculation and Culture Room and established field station spread over 23 acres of land where vermicompost pits along with NADEP and other facilities for bio-fertilizer and bio-pesticide production.
Instruments available: Autoclave, Hot air oven, pH meter, Electric Balance, Laminar Air Flow, Culture Rack, A.C., Distillation Unit, Freeze, BOD Incubator Shaker.
Biodiversity Conservation & Tissue Culture Division
- To develop Research & Technological development model of aromatic medicinal plants for their integrated development and give foremost position to our state towards this direction.
- To develop protocols of commercially important plants through plant tissue culture technique.
- Conservation, Propagation & popularization of aromatic & medicinal plants of M.P. state which are going to be extent.
- To establish Botanical biodiversity conservation park and to setup its model.
- To impart training to Students, researcher, university/college professors and other related R&D staff of Institutions and Entrepreneurs along with to provide facilities for their internship work as well as dissertation work in tissue culture field. Its ultimate goal is to develop human resource in tissue culture field for the present and future needs of the state.
- To popularize and increase awareness among students, farmers and common man towards Biodiversity conservation.
- To give Consultancy and guidance towards biodiversity conservation as well as to setup tissue culture lab.
Organic Farming & Livelihood Generation Division
- To develop Research & Technological development model of organic farming system for its integrated development in the state and give foremost position to our state.
- To impart training to farmers, students, researchers, university/college professors and other related R&D staff of Institutions and Entrepreneurs.
- Its ultimate goal is to popularize and increase awareness regarding long-term benefits of Organic farming system to people and the environment among farmers, students and common man as well as to encourage farmers to adopt organic farming practice.
- To give Consultancy and guidance towards organic farming system as well as to setup model organic farm along with market to farmers for organic produces.
- To impart training and guidance to SC/ST, tribal’s, BPL, youth of semi-urban area and villages and other villagers of state to set up their own livelihood with low cost technology and optimum utilization of village resources along with marketing of finished products.
- Rural employment generation to stop migration of youth from villages to nearby cities.
- Women empowerment.
Projects/Programmes
Corporate social responsibility (CSR) Project of Hindustan copper limited Govt. of India at malanjkhand copper Project in malanjkhand, Balaghat district (M.P.)
Under this CSR project M.P. Council of Science & Technology is doing various livelihood work along with imparting trainings on jute & bamboo items making, Dona pattal making, Potato chips making, Vermicompost production and Mushroom production to villagers of 3 villages namely Pendrapani , Suji ,Balgaon and Bhutna villages where population is mostly SC/ST and tribal (baiga).Council is also providing market for their finished products hence ensuring their income. Also Council is also supporting other scientific tasks like watershed management survey as well as soil testing etc.
Science popularization in the field of Agriculture
Under this project Council is promoting awareness among farmers of various districts of M.P. towards organic farming, drip irrigation, soil testing, grain storage, encouragement to use bio-fertilizer and bio-insecticides, food processing, horticulture etc. by organizing workshops.
3-5 days training to farmers and students along with facility for 1-2 months internship work as well as 3-6 months dissertation work for students and research scholars under subject expert is available in the field of organic farming system.
3-5 days and 15 to one month rural livelihood generation trainings on various fields of livelihood with the input of low cost technologies under the supervision of subject experts /master trainers.
